(Ella was adopted, and the identify of her birth parents is not known. The 1880 Census indicates that they were both born in Wisconsin; the 1900 indicates that her father was born in France and her mother in Wisconsin; and the 1910 indicates that her father was born in Michigan and her mother in Wisconsin.)

She appeared in the census in 1880 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁴ Ella appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.¹² She appeared in the census in 1910 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ (She cannot be located in the 1920 or 1930 Census.) She died on 22 April 1953 at the age of 80.^37,53 Ella was buried in 1953 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^53,54 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Ella E. ROOT and Ernest E. "Ernie" HATCH were married on 19 June 1887 in Monroe County, WI.^18,35 Ernest E. "Ernie" HATCH was born in April 1866 in Wisconsin.¹² He appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.¹² His occupation was "Butter Maker." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ His occupation was "Merchant, General Store." Ernie died in 1925 at the age of 59.⁵⁵ He was buried in 1925 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵⁵ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
