Francis PURDY Sr. was born in 1615 in York, Yorkshire, England.² The Purdy name derived from the nickname "Pardew," which is believed to have been taken from the French "Par Diew," meaning "By God." Ancient records show these spellings: Pardew, Pardoe, Pardee, Pardy, Pardue, Purdue, Purday, Purdie, Purde and Purdy. Purdy is the most generally accepted version in America today.
He emigrated in 1632 from York, Yorkshire, England.² He lived at his home in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachuetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America in 1632.² Francis lived at his home in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America after 1633.² He died on 14 October 1658 at the age of 43 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.¹
