Rattle, 87, of Tomah, died Aug. 25, 2012, at his home. He was born June 9, 1925, to William and Katherine (Carroll) Rattle on the family farm in the town of Grant. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met Charlotte Jakutek. They were united in marriage Jan. 11, 1948, in Germany. Together they moved back near the family farm and have lived in the Tomah area since. He was a very determined man who always believed if you are going to do something to do it your best. He loved visiting and spending time with his family and friends and was known for his good sense of humor and his practical jokes. He enjoyed working with his hands; he built his own shop and often fabricated his own tools for his projects. He was an avid snowmobiler and was a past member of the Millston Snowmobile Club. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 4125 and a member of the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post No. 201. Prior to his retirement he worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tomah. He also was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte; three children, Suzanne Betthauser of Tomah, Christine Sparks of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mark (Tammy) Rattle of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Mitch) Popple of Prior Lake, Minn., Eric Betthauser of Charlottesville, Va., Robin Sparks of Grand Junction, Tina Morton of Denver, Jenny Sparks of Grand Junction, Ben Rattle of Oakland, Calif., and Jeremy Rattle of Milwaukee; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Neoma Goodenough and Theresa Anderson, both of Warrens, and Kathleen “Kathy” (Charles) Pollard of Tomah; one brother, Ronald of Marshfield; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, William, Francis “Bud,” Kenneth and Donald and an infant brother, Cletus. .
