He died of pancreatic cancer on 14 July 2007 at the age of 76 in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, WI.21,25 Obituary Notes: "Douglas Amandus Randall died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam as a result of pancreatic cancer. Douglas Amandus Randall was born Sept. 23, 1930, on the family farm in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, near Tomah, WI. He was the only child of Harold C. Randall and Norma J. (Reich) Randall. He attended the Kirby School, a one-room school of eight grades. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1948. Doug attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison until January 1953, at which time he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation. Douglas was married to Beatrice E. Allen on Sept. 1, 1952, in Fall River, WI. She preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 1998. He then married Kathryn (Hasenstab) Frank in Beaver Dam on Feb. 18, 2001. Doug was commissioned in the Army Reserve in June 1952 and called to active duty in April 1953. In 1957, he was integrated into the regular Army and served until his retirement in June 1973 with the grade of Lieutenant Colonel. His tours of duty included twice in Korea and once each in Japan, Vietnam and Panama. During his various assignments, he participated in competitive target shooting with small bore and large bore pistols and rifles. He was also Provost Marshal at Fort Riley, KS, and the Second Infantry Division in Korea. High points in his military career included an assignment as Security Officer for the funeral of President Harry S. Truman, participation in projects in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay and El Salvador to promote national growth and oppose guerilla activity. Doug also had an assignment in an administrative capacity to the ninth Conference of American Armies at Fort Bragg, NC. Doug loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a small arms instructor in the Army. He won an athletic letter at the University of Wisconsin on the pistol team. He competed on the rifle and pistol teams in the Army and developed an interest in antique guns. After serving 20 years in the Army, he moved to Beaver Dam, where he was appointed to the position of Chief of Police in December 1973. Doug as a long-time member of Grace Presbyterian Church, having served as both Deacon and Elder. He was a member of the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146 and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Optimist International and Wisconsin Chief of Police Association. He was also a member of the NRA, Wisconsin Gun Collectors Association, Gun Owners of America, a charter member of the new Beaver Dam Optimist Club and a member of the Military Officer Association of America. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Katy; four daughters, Susan Randall, Wichita, KS, Gloria (David) Randall Hewitt, Racine, WI, Valerie (Rick) Randall Lee of North Andover, MA, Lynn Randall of Tigard, OR; one son, Stephen (Becky) Randall of Neenah, WI; eight grandchildren: Nate, Megan, Mike and Matt Watters; Maggie Lee; Josh and Gracie Randall, and Levohn Brown; one great-grandson, Tyler Brown. He will also be missed the children of his wife: Katy; Gary (Kathy) Frank, Green Bay; David (Elaine Sharp) Frank, Madison; Diane (Bill) Wetherbee, Double Oak, TX, and Kathy’s five grandchildren: Jacqueline (Tim) Frank Noll, Ben (Mary) Frank, Cheryl (Jeremy) Treague, Kelsey and Kaitlin Wetherbee. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold, in 1976; his mother, Norma, in 2004 at the age of 101; his first wife, Beatrice, in 1998; and one great-granddaugter in 2000. Funeral services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam, on Wednesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Jack Harrison will officiate with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam. Graveside military rites will be conducted by John E. Miller American Legion Post #146. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. The Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146 will conduct a Legion service on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, July 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name would be appreciated to Hillside Hospice, Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam Senior woodworking shop or the charity of your choice. The Koepsell Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Beaver Dam served the family."
