16. Joanne Katherine REZIN was born on 11 January 1946 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.5,12 She graduated in 1964 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 from Tomah High School.

Joanne Katherine REZIN and Melvin Joseph "Mel" WESTPFAHL were married on 25 June 1966 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.18,30,31 Melvin Joseph "Mel" WESTPFAHL, son of Alloth William WESTPFAHL and Helen Gertrude MAHONEY, was born on 11 February 1945 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.12,20 He graduated in 1963 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12,20,22 from Tomah High School. He died on 13 January 2014 at the age of 68 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.30

Obituary Notes: "Melvin Westpfahl, 68, of Tomah passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Tomah Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1945, to Alloth and Helen (Mahoney) Westpfahl at the Sparta Hospital and was raised in Tomah.

Mel was a 1963 graduate of Tomah High School. During high school he worked at the Erwin Movie Theater and Cram’s grocery store. Following high school he attended UW-Milwaukee and MATC, while working at Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company as a data processor in Milwaukee. Mel married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Rezin June 25, 1966, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church in Tomah. He went to work for his father-in-law at the Ready Mix plant in Mauston before he began his 42 year career as president of Rezin Construction.

He was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus. Mel was an active member of the Tomah Community where he was a member of many organizations and served on many boards in various capacities. He was a past member of the Rotary Club, the Tomah Area Cancer Society, a past President of the Tomah Handishop Board and served two terms on the St. Mary’s Parish Council.
Mel loved traveling, gardening and silversmith jewelry making. He enjoyed his time on his boat and in his corvette. Mel was a great cook and a member of Gourmet Club since 1973. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed science. More than anything, Mel loved his family and especially being a grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Westpfahl; daughters, Christine (Dan) Cronk and Elizabeth (Kirk) Arity; grandchildren, Jesse and Cahil Arity and Alex, Maggie and Gracie Cronk. He is further survived by his sisters, Leila (Dale) Mosley, Carrol (Ken) Schmidt; brothers, Merlyn (Irene) Westpfahl and Steven (Patty) Westpfahl; a sister-in-law, Mary Westpfahl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alloth and Helen (Mahoney) Westpfahl; sisters, Lorene Koput, Helen Joy Starkey; brothers, Arlyn Westpfahl, Victor Westpfahl and Jim Westpfahl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Richard Gilles will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tomah."
