He listed himself as "Walter Crawford" in his 1919 draft registration card. In the 1920 and 1930 Census records, he was listed as "Walter C.," and in 1940 he was listed as "Walter." Apparently, he preferred "Walter" to "Crawford.")

(Family records indicate that he was born in Rock Hill, Fairfield County, SC, but Rock Hill is located in York County.)

(The Erin Taylor research lists his birth date as 28 April 1879, but his World War I draft card lists it as 22 April 1879.)

She appeared in the census in 1940 in Bartow, Polk County, FL.²⁶ Her household was at 505 Jackson Avenue. She was a Widow and the Head of Household. Living with her were her daughter, Madeline Cherry, and her granddaughter, Lillian. She was listed as a Widow, but her ex-husband was still living; they were divorced. (Her name is spelled "Rohertson" in the Ancestry.com census index.)
