Calkins, 72, of Warrens, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at the Family Heritage Nursing Home in Black River Falls. He was born on Dec. 13, 1931, to Robert and Bernice (Richmond) Calkins in Warrens, Monroe County, Wisconsin. He was baptized on May 5, 1968. Darold worked as a logger with his father in the family logging business for many years before becoming a mechanic and an iron-mine worker. He enjoyed playing the guitar and talking with truckers all over the country on his CB. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bernice Calkins; a daughter, Julie Calkins; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwaine and Pat Calkins; a grandson, Matthew; and a nephew, Dwaine Calkins Jr. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Paul Plowman will officiate. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Warren Mills Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements."
