15. Deacon Samuel ROOT was born in 1644 in Farmington Township, Hartford County, CT.1,8,18 He died on 27 November 1711 at the age of 67 in Westfield, Hampden County, MA.1,8,18 He signed a will.17 From the Root Family History: "His will did not give satisfacton, and his property was divided, by mutual agreement, in equal shares among his brothers and sisters, leaving also an equal share (the seventh) to John Davis. This mutual agreement, recorded in Northampton and signed by all the children or their attorneys is a sufficient proof in itself of what has been doubted, that John, Samuel, and Thomas were brothers of Stephen, Joseph and Caleb."

John Davis was his adopted son.

Deacon Samuel ROOT and Mary ORTON were married about 1666 in Farmington Township, Hartford County, CT.5,8 (According to the LDS Family Group Records, they had no birth children.) Mary ORTON, daughter of Thomas ORTON and Margaret PELL, was born on 16 May 1650 in Windsor, Hartford County, CT.5 She died on 23 October 1732 at the age of 82.5
