Deacon Samuel ROOT was born on 2 November 1713 in Westfield, Hampden County, MA.^1,8,10 He appeared in the census in 1790 in Westfield, Hampden County, MA.⁴³ His household consisted of 1 male, age 16 and over; 3 males, under age 16; and 3 females. He died about 1800 at the age of 87.²⁸ Samuel was a hatter.¹

Deacon Samuel ROOT and Mary ALEXANDER were married on 12 July 1739 in Westfield, Hampden County, MA.^8,10 (Richard Ripley's research lists her name as Sarah Litton, born in 1720.) Mary ALEXANDER was born (date unknown).
