712. Josiah Moses ROOT was born on 26 September 1833 in Kent, Litchfield County, CT.⁷¹ He died on 21 March 1908 at the age of 74 in Berlin, Green Lake County, WI.⁷¹

Josiah Moses ROOT and Elizabeth Ellen RIPLEY were married on 21 November 1854 in Logansport, Cass County, IN.⁷¹

He was one of the first students at Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH at the age of 17. After their marriage, Josiah and Elizabeth removed to Dartford (now Greene Lake), WI in 1857.

He served in the Civil War as a volunteer 29 Aug 1864, 43rd Reg. Wis. Vol. K. Entrained from Bluffton, WI for 1 year. He moved from Greene Lake to Berlin where he lived until his death. Josiah held several offices of public trust, was director of the oldest bank in Berlin, and was a master of the Masonic Lodge.
