340. Robert Sowle "Bob" NICOL was born on 6 August 1920 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.64,197 He appeared in the census in 1930 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.94 He died on 29 November 2010 at the age of 90 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.197

Robert Sowle Nicol was born on Aug. 6, 1920, to Jason T. and Lucie E. (Sowle) Nicol in Sparta, Monroe County, Wis. He grew up in the LaGrange and North Tomah areas, graduating from Tomah High School in 1937. Bob was employed at the Bank of Tomah until June 1942, when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Georgia (Junie) Falkner of Tomah in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 25, 1942. They marked 65 years of marriage before Junie’s death in 2007.

After Bob’s discharge from the Marine Corps in 1945, they returned to Tomah where Bob went into the real estate and insurance business. Bob also worked as a pulpwood broker, used car dealer, land investor, and Job Corps administrator. He was especially proud of his service to the community as a member and President of the Tomah School Board.

Bob was an avid sportsman and enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing and golfing. Training and racing thoroughbred horses was truly his lifelong passion. He especially enjoyed sharing his horse stories.

In retirement, Bob and Junie spent winters in Bradenton, Fla., and summers on Long Lake near New Auburn for nearly twenty years. During their last years, they lived at Long Lake. His yellow lab, Molly, was a constant and faithful companion during the years since Junie’s death.

Bob is survived by his four children: Bonnie (Karl) Peterson, Green Bay, Wis., Blaine (Rosanne) Nicol, Brea, Calif., B. Scott (Dorothy) Nicol of Tomah, and Brent (Donna) Nicol, also of Tomah; 11 grandchildren and their families also survive: Sara (Ben) Ehrets and Odin; Joshua Peterson; Emily (Rob) Robinson and Travis, Alyssa and Hailey; Jenny Nicol (Charlie Visnic) and June Ellory; Stacy (Guilliame) Teyssier; Brian (Marie) Nicol and William; Melissa (Brian) Olson and Caitlin, Sadie and Rylie; Brett (Kim) Nicol and Emily and Jackson; Mandy Nicol and Kaya; Jason Nicol and Joe Nicol. He is further survived by his brother, Thomas (Alice) Nicol of Baudette, Minn., and his sister Anne (Paul) Gaylor of Madison; a sister-in-law, Orlou Daniels, formerly of Tomah, now of Janesville; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife Junie, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jason T. Nicol Jr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, 2 p.m. at Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Reverend Maynard Hofer of the VA officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the LaGrange Cemetery, Tomah. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Tomah Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 625, Tomah, WI 54660."

BIGELOW, was born on 24 February 1923 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.64,124 She died on 7 December 2007 at the age of 84 in New Auburn, Chippewa County, WI.124

Obituary Notes: "Junie Nicol, 84, of New Auburn, WI, formerly of Tomah, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at home.

She was born Georgia Junior Falkner on Feb. 24, 1923, to George and Myrtle (Bigelow) Falkner in the Town of Adrian, Monroe County, WI. She graduated from Tomah High School in 1940. She married Robert S. Nicol on Oct. 25, 1942, in San Diego, CA, where he was serving with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. After the war ended, they returned to Tomah where they raised their family.

Junie was employed by the First Bank of Tomah for many years, retiring as cashier in 1981. She belonged to the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Tomah Toastmasters and served on the Tomah Park Board. She was especially proud of her part in getting the Little Red School House established in Gillett Park. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Hiawatha Golf Course.

In retirement, Junie and Bob enjoyed winters in Bradenton, FL, and summers on Long Lake near New Auburn. She was always busy - and enjoyed biking, golfing and canoeing in addition to her volunteer work at schools and at Roser Church in Anna Maria, FL, and at the Ice Age Center and New Auburn School in Wisconsin. She pursued her life long-love of beauty through her flowers, drawing, sketching and photography. Grammy Junie’s picture books were the center of many visits and memories for her family and friends. When Lyme Disease curtailed her physical activities, Junie continued to expand her world and her friendships through her computer, staying in touch with family and friends and following their travels and activities around the world.

Junie is survived by Bob, her husband of 65 years, and their four children: Bonnie (Karl) Peterson, Green Bay, WI; Blaine (Rosanne) Nicol, Brea, CA; B. Scott (Dorothy) Nicol of Tomah, and Brent (Donna), also of Tomah; 11 grandchildren and their families also survive: Sara (Ben) Ehrets and Odin of Stoughton, WI; Joshua Peterson, Green Bay, WI; Emily (Rob) Robinson and Travis, Alyssa and Hailey, Placentia, CA; Jenny Nicol (Charlie Visnic), Fullerton, CA; Stacy Nicol (Guilliame Tessier) of France; Brian (Marie) Nicol and William of Green Bay; Melissa (Brian) Olson and Caitlin, Sadie and Rylie of Tomah; Brett (Kim) Nicol and Emily of Milwaukee and Mandy Nicol (Adam Lange) and Kaya Lange of Milwaukee; and Jason Nicol of Eau Claire and Joe Nicol of Tomah. She is further survived by her sister, Orlou Daniels, formerly of Tomah and now of Janesville, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Arllys Schumann.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor William Rice officiated. Burial followed in the LaGrange Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends called on Monday, Dec. 10, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements."
