26. Leon SOMMERFIELD was born on 25 January 1937 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁵ He died on 28 October 2010 at the age of 73 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁵

Obituary Notes: "Leon E. Sommerfield, 73 of Tomah, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010. He was born Jan. 25, 1937, to Otto and Anna (Stahnke) Sommerfield at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah. He was a member of the Tomah High School graduating class of 1954. He was united in marriage to Ruth Rediske on May 25, 1963, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah.

Leon was a proud member of the United States Army. He worked for Rezin Construction, drove truck for Keene’s Trucking and also worked at Union Camp. On April 1, 1963, Leon and Ruth purchased a farm outside of Tomah; they bought three cows and started farming. Outdoors is where Leon enjoyed spending his time. He liked to keep busy on the farm, working with his hands. He also enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; two children, Otto (Sheila) of Tomah and Lisa Olman of Madison; four grandchildren, Dustin Sommerfield, William and Dylan Cottrell, Amber (Ross) Hoeff; a great-grandchild Brent Hoeff; four sisters-in-law, Helen Rediske of Hokah, Minn., Shirley (Billy) Todd of Garden City, Mich., Beverly Rediske and Caroline Rediske both of Tomah; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Westpahl; a brother, Orville Sommerfield; a sister-in-law, Deloris Noe; three brothers-in-law, Herbert Rediske, Hughie Rediske and Robert Rediske.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tomah. Pastor Curt S. Backhaus will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery with military honors by the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Leon SOMMERFIELD and Ruth Marie REDISKE were married on 25 May 1963 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^25,26 Ruth Marie REDISKE, daughter of Charles REDISKE and Cora WARNER, was born on 27 March 1942 in Monroe County, WI.¹³ She graduated in 1960 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁷ from Tomah High School.
