78. Daniel Stephen STANDIFORD was born on 9 December 1941 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.^24,40 He died on 8 December 2009 at the age of 67 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.⁴⁰

Obituary Notes: "Daniel S. Standiford, 67, of Sparta, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on Dec. 9, 1941, in Sparta, to James and Minerva (Bjerke) Standiford. He grew up in the Sparta and La Crosse area.

Daniel served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 26, 1959, until being discharged on Feb. 11, 1963, when he was transfered from active duty to Navy Reserve. During his active duty he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) for his service in the Bay of Pigs Invasion. He worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah for over 35 years with his last job assignment as a firefighter with the Veterans Administration Fire Department. He also volunteered with the Tomah Fire Department.

He lived in Tomah for many years and moved to Sparta after he retired in July of 1996. He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post 2112 in Sparta.

He is survived by a son, Steven (Cerena) Standiford of Lodi; a daughter, Lisa Mayo of Loganville, GA; eight grandchildren, Dane (Jessi), Shannon, Dusty, Danielle, Scott, Brad, Nicholas, Mitchel; a great-grandchild, Devlin; special friend, Sharon Teske of Sparta; four sisters, Sharon (Mack) Pruitt of Shasta Lake City, CA, Barbara (Wes) Dripps of Phoenix, AZ, Marilyn (Larry) Springer of Ankeny, IA, and Linda Sable of Ankeny, IA; five brothers, David (friend, Edith) Standiford of Holmen, Phillip (Maria) Standiford of Elk Run Heights, IA, John Standiford of Amarillo, TX, Jim (Linda) Standiford of Des Moines, IA, and Maurice (Nettie) Standiford of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Roger.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Randy Larson officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 2112 will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Angelo.

Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
