Johann Joachim Heinrich "Henry" VIERIG Sr. was born on 14 December 1845 in Holdorf, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).^{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} (His surname changed to "Verick" when he received his naturalization papers at Sparta. It was spelled "Viereck" in the church baptism record of his sons Adolph and Rudolph, and daughters Ida, Alwine and Emma. It was spelled "Veirig" in the 1880 Census and "Verick" in the 1900 Census and in the cemetery records of his burial.)

He appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁰ His household was at 423 Glendale Avenue and his occupation was "None." Henry died on 20 September 1926 at the age of 80 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^1,4 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Sophia Dorothea Elizabeth BERG was born on 24 February 1845 in Mecklenburg-Schwerin Province, Preussen (Prussia).^3,4,6,7,9 (This is a map of Mecklenburg.) (Her surname was listed in the baptim records of her children.) She emigrated in 1870 from Germany.^1,2,10,11 On June 21st, 1870, they landed in America with their infant son and settled on a farm near Norwalk, Wisconsin, where their other children were born.
