15. Elda May WALLACE was born on 1 March 1922 in Oakdale, Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.18,34 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16 She died on 21 July 2011 at the age of 89 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.34

Obituary Notes: "Elda M. Lawrence, age 89, Tomah, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the Mayo Clinic Healthcare Center in Sparta. She was born March 1, 1922, to Lew and Minnie (Peterson) Wallace in Oakdale. Elda was united in marriage to Harold Albrecht in 1942; he died in World War II in 1944.

On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Durward Lawrence. She worked as a U.S. postal clerk at Fort McCoy. Elda was a talented seamstress and artist; she especially enjoyed liquid painting. In her earlier years she was very proud to have helped her children in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Durward; children Danny (Donna) Albrecht and Timothy (Rosemary) Lawrence, both of Tomah; a son-in-law, Jerold Stouffer of Wyoming; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lew and Minnie; a son, Steven; a daughter, Annette; and a sister, Lona Inman.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 4 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. A private family burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah."

Elda May WALLACE and Harold Richard ALBRECHT were married in 1942.3,34,35 Harold Richard ALBRECHT, son of Reinhold Wilhelm Edmund ALBRECHT and Hulda Elizabeth PERGANDE, was born on 10 January 1915 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.18,35,36 He was baptized on 21 February 1915 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.37 He appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.15 Harold appeared in the census in 1930 in Clifton Township, Monroe County, WI.16 He died on 14 November 1944 at the age of 29 in France.26,35 Harold was killed in action in the Army in France during World War II. He was a member of the 95th Infantry Division under General Patton, and had been overseas approximately 2 1/2 years. He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.35,38 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Elda May WALLACE and Durward G. LAWRENCE were married on 2 June 1946.3,34,39 Durward G. LAWRENCE was born on 19 October 1921 in Corwith, Hancock County, IA.39,40 He died on 20 August 2011 at the age of 89 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.39

Obituary Notes: "Durward G. Lawrence, 89, Tomah, passed away Saturday Aug. 20, 2011, at the Mayo Clinic Healthcare Center in Sparta. He was born Oct. 19, 1921, to George and Margaret (Destri) Lawrence in Corwith, Iowa. He served in the United States Army in World War II and also served many years in the National Guard.

On June 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Elda Wallace Albrecht-Lawrence. He worked at Camp Williams for many years until his retirement. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader throughout his life. Durward was a member of the Tomah VFW No. 1382. He and Elda enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Timothy (Rosemary) Lawrence of Tomah; a step-son, Danny (Donna) Albrecht of Tomah; a son-in-law, Jerold Stouffer of Wyoming; a brother, Ronald (Nancy) Lawrence of Camp Douglas; a sister, Laurene Gebczyk of Tomah; 14 grandchildren; and many great- grandchildren and great great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret; his wife, Elda, on July 21, 2011; a son, Steven; a daughter, Annette; and two sisters, Georgia and Thelma.

Funeral services with military honors by the Tomah VFW No. 1382 were held Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at 4 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. A private family burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends called for visitation Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Memorials may be given to the Tomah Boys and Girls Club or the Tomah Public Library."
