He emigrated in 1864 from Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).¹³ He appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁶ Herman died on 18 November 1949 at the age of 92 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.^13,14 He was buried in Sheldon Township, Monroe County, WI.¹³ in the Wanderer's Rest Cemetery.

Gottlieb "Herman" HOFFMAN and Sophia Minerva SCHLUENZ were married on 26 December 1884 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.^13,21,57 Sophia Minerva SCHLUENZ, daughter of Johann Friedrich Theodor SCHLUENZ and Sophia BOLDT, was born on 1 March 1869 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.^4,13 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁶ She was confirmed on 18 March 1883 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴ at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
