Wilhelmine Julianna "Minni" JASKIEWICZ was born on 16 September 1842 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).19,40,49,77,85,87,173,188,189 (Her name was listed as "Juliann Wilhelmine Jashkevits" in her Marriage Registration record, and as "Wilhelmine Juliana Jaskewitz" in the baptism records of her daughter Maria in 1864. In 1867, the baptism record of her son Friedrich listed her surname as "Jaske." By the time of the baptism of her daughter Dorothea Alvine in 1873, she had changed it to "Kewit.")

(The 1900 Census listed her birth date as Sep 1844; that is believed to have been an error.) She was christened on 25 September 1842 in Jankendorf, Kreis Kolmar, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).40 She emigrated on 26 June 1855 from Preussen (Prussia).49,66,69,70,91,97 (She and her father and step-mother emigrated on the ship "D.h. Waetjen" from the port of Bremen, and arrived in New York City.) (The 1900 Census listed her emigration year as 1860; that was an error.)

(She was not listed with her father and step-mother in the 1860 Census, and it is not known where she was living.) Minni appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.25 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.19 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.49 Minni appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.70 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.71 She died on 29 March 1926 at the age of 83 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.69,87,173,189 Obituary Notes: "Wilhelmine Juliana Kewit was born in Germany, in September 3, 1843 and came to the United States with her parents when she was 12 (actually 11) years old, residing for a year at Lebanon, Wis., and then moved to the town of Wilton in Monroe County.

On the 4th day of Jan. 1862, she was united in marriage to Frederick Gnewikow. When, in the month of April of the same year the German Lutheran Congregation of Ridgeville was organized, the deceased together with her husband, an organizer, and one of the first members, joined the church, and ever remained a faithful member.

Of the eight children born to them, five preceded her in death. On March 15th, 1926, having on the previous day attended divine service, she was afflicted with influenza. After an illness of two weeks, March 29, she passed away peaceably surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her bereaved husband Frederick Gnewikow, Sr.; three sons, Arthur, Alex and Frederick, Jr;, two brothers, August Kewit and Herman Kewit; one sister, Mrs. Otillia Arndt of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services attended by a large assembly were held in the Ridgeville church and conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. E. Berg. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery at Ridgeville." Gnewikow house, Ridgeville" by Samuel H. Flagg, Justice of the Peace. Included in their Marriage Registration record is the following note: "I hereby certify that the above named Carl Fredrick Gnewikow and Miss Juliaann Wilhelmine Jashkevits were, with their mutual consent legally joined together in holy matrimony, which was solemnized by me in the Presence of M. Gnewikow and Caroline Kelner, Jan. 4th AD 1862. Ridgeville, Monroe Co. Wis. Samuel H. Flagg, Justice of the Peace."

His occupation was listed as "Farmer" at his residence in Ridgeville, WI.

(They were the first members of their families to have their marriage recorded in the Monroe County marriage records.)

When the Tomah Telephone line first went through Ridgeville, "Central" was in their home. Minnie was the operator and had the switchboard in her kitchen. Friedrich Karl "Fred" GNEWIKOW Sr., son of Gottlieb Meinhard Ludwig GNEWIKOW and Caroline Wilhelmine Anna FIEDLER, was born on 17 January 1840 in Preussen (Prussia).21,49,66,85,188,193 (His name was listed as "Carl Fredrick" on his Marriage Registration Certificate, and as "Heinrich" in the baptism record of his daughter Amanda.) He emigrated in 1848 from Preussen (Prussia).49,70,71 He appeared in the census in 1860 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.66 He was living with his parents. Fred was Lutheran in 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.55,77 He was listed in the Church Register as member number 3 of the first 100 members of the congregation of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a charter member and one of the first trustees of the church.

He was listed on the Memberbership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1900. He was was a baptism sponsor on 9 August 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.77 He and Louise Jaskewitz (his wife's sister) were sponsors at the baptism of Emilie Fuerbringer, the eighth baptism to occur at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
