Alvin Ernest COOK and Ruth L. WESTPHAL were married on 8 June 1940 in Dorset Ridge, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.75,312,523,548,549 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ruth L. WESTPHAL, daughter of Otto Friedrich Karl WESTPHAL and Sophia Susanna BINDSCHAEDEL, was born on 9 July 1915 in Monroe County, WI.130,550 She died on 26 April 2009 at the age of 93 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.550

Obituary Notes: "Ruth L. Cook, 93, of Clifton, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. She was born to Otto and Susanna (Bindschaedel) Westphal at Dorset Ridge. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dorset Ridge. She attended the Dorset Ridge Elementary School. She was united in marriage to Alvin Cook on June 8, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ruth and Alvin farmed in the Town of Clifton until 1973. She also worked at the Fountain Lutheran Home as a cook. Ruth was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid and a member of the Kendall American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed the church choir and gardening, especially flowers.

She will be remembered most for her home cooked family celebrations and her hand- tied quilts.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin; a son, Ken (Mary) of Wilton; two daughters, Carolynn (Jim) Gerke and Dianne (Bruce) Wilson, both of Tomah; a daughter-in-law, Norma Cook of Tomah; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Westphal of Tomah and Carl Westpahl of Mary Esther, FL; two sisters, Alvera Eckelberg of Kendall and Doris Matias of La Crosse; two brothers-in-law, Floyd (Lois) Cook of Tomah and Rudolph (Elaine) Cook of Milwaukee, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale; a sister, Gertrude; and three brothers, Henry, Louis and Lloyd Westphal.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kendall. Pastor Conrad Prell will officiate. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Kendall, is assisting the family with arrangements."
