Obituary Notes: "Vilas Von Haden, 88, Tomah, died July 3, 2011, at the Tomah Healthcare Center. He was born Dec. 22, 1922, to Elmer and Anna (Ness) Von Haden at home. He was baptized on Feb. 25, 1923, and confirmed on Aug. 22, 1937, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Indian Creek. He grew up in the Clifton area and attended the Graf Country School.

He was united in marriage to Delores Wyss on Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together they raised their family of nine children and farmed in the town of Clifton until 1983, when he retired and moved to Tomah. He enjoyed tractors and gardening. Vilas was a true farmer; he enjoyed working the land and he enjoyed the hard work. The time most important to him was the time spent with his family. He enjoyed visiting with his children, telling stories and teaching his grandchildren. He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delores; nine children, Rosanne (Blaine) Nicol of Brea, Calif., Kathy (Allan) Schaitel of Sparta, Karen (Gale) Jessie of Cataract, Bill Von Haden of Tomah, Denise (Mike) Prissel of Tomah, Noreen (Victor) Hinze of Rockland, Jim (Deanna) Von Haden of Tomah, Stefanie (Steve) Walker of Tomah and Steven Von Haden of Onalaska; 13 grandchildren, Emily (Rob) Robinson of Yorba Linda, Calif., Jenny (Charlie) Visnic of Fullerton, Calif., Stacy (Guilluame) Tressyier of Paris, France, Laurie (Jason) Ehlinger of Sparta, Greg (Amy) Schaitel of Chatfield, Minn., Danielle Huggett of Cataract, Tyler Jessie of Onalaska, Adam (Betsy) Jessie of Onalaska, Amanda (Drei) Williams of Tomah, Elise Von Haden of Tomah, Krista Fitzgibbons of Tomah, Lindsey Walker of Tomah, and Ryan Walker of Tomah; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Eleanor Westpfahl of Tomah; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mortenson of Menomonee Falls, Donna (Tom) Patterson of Polo, Ill., and Wanda (Pat) Killeen of Dearborn, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Dewey (Pat) Wyss of New Lisbon and Jerry Wyss of Milwaukee; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Jeff Fitzgibbons; four brothers-in-law, Reuben Westpfahl, Harold and Walter Wyss and John Mortenson; and a nephew Jerry Westpfahl.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30032 Cty. Rd. A., township of Clifton. Pastor Paul Heiderich will officiate. Burial will be in the Clifton Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 8, 2011, 4-8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service."
