20. Alexander Selkirk CRAWFORD was born on 27 April 1833 in Windsor, Broome County, NY.^1,2,5 The 1880 Census indicates his birth place was Pennsylvania. About 1880 he was a scout and farmer in Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.^5,6 Monroe County Heritage Book Article #26: "Alexander was a scout for part of his younger years; then he turned to farming and logging to raise his family. Melissa was a midwife and was on the school board for Allen School and the town board as well."

He appeared in the census in 1880 in Byron Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.⁵ Alexander died on 28 October 1896 at the age of 63.³ He was buried in Valley Junction, Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.^3,7 in the Wood Cemetery.

Alexander Selkirk CRAWFORD and Melissa Elizabeth WILCOX were married on 1 February 1856 in New Lisbon, Juneau County, WI.³ Monroe County Heritage Book Article #26: "Both families (Crawford and Wilcox) moved to Wisconsin in the early 1840's. The Crawford family settled in Columbia County and the Wilcox family settled in Juneau County. After Alexander and Melissa's marriage they lived in Columbia and Sauk counties before settling in Byron Township, Monroe County, WI. They had 16 children, the last five were born in Byron Township." Melissa Elizabeth WILCOX, daughter of Bernhard WILCOX and Irena CLARK, was born on 20 December 1840 in Jefferson County, NY.³ (The 1880 Census indicates her birth place was New Jersey.) She died on 9 July 1939 at the age of 98.³ She was buried in Valley Junction, Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.^3,7 in the Woods Cemetery, Valley Junction.
