An enlarged background of the family, including a summary of their children, is contained in Henry DeWitt's memorial. Through their mother, all of the subsequent Dewitt children were multiple Mayflower descendants. Elizabeth Jane's father Austin Griggs was a descendant of Richard Warren and her mother Orilla Dimock a descendant of John Howland, both passengers of the 1620 Mayflower passage. In addition, Elizabeth was the writer's ancestral cousin, a shared descendant of George Partridge and Sarah Tracy of Duxbury, Mass., latter whose father Stephen Tracy arrived at Plymouth, Mass. in 1621 aboard the Fortune. She was buried in Palmyra, Marion County, MO.52 in the Greenwood Cemetery. Elizabeth Jane GRIGGS and Henry DE WITT were married on 10 September 1845.51,54 They had 6 or 7 children.
