Friedrich Karl "Frederick" ECKELBERGER was born on 20 January 1820 in Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).5,8,9,10,11 (Glenn Jacobsen's research lists his birth date as 20 January 1820; another source lists it as 3 January 1820. Yet another source indicates that he may have been born in 1812, but his gravestone indicates that he died at the age of 60 years and 6 months. That would put his year of birth at 1820.)

The family story goes that one day Friedrich Echelberger was in the village shopping for feed, and the men around the feed store began teasing him about his name, calling him an "Old German." Friedrich stomped home and dropped the "er" on the end of his surname. He emigrated before 1857 from Preussen (Prussia).10 He was Lutheran about 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.10 He was listed in the Church Register as member number 24 of the first 100 members of the congregation of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ridgeville. Frederick appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.12 He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.9 His occupation was "Farmer." He died on 3 July 1880 at the age of 60 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.5,11,13 Frederick was buried on 5 July 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.8,11,13 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Friedrich Karl "Frederick" ECKELBERGER and Margaretha Jacobina Anna "Margaret" MOHR were married on 12 March 1857 in Dane County, WI.5,8,14,15 (They may have married in Prussia.) Margaretha Jacobina Anna "Margaret" MOHR, daughter of Jacob MOHR and Margaretha G. UNKNOWN (MOHR), was born on 17 March 1825 in Egenroth, Kreis Untertaunus, Hesse-Nassau Province, Preussen (Prussia).8,9,15,16 (Her surname was spelled "Mohr" in the marriage record of her son Johann, and "Moor" in her church death record; it is believed to have been "Mohr. Her birth place was listed as "Egenroth Hessen Nassau.") She emigrated in 1855 from Prussia.17 (The 1900 Census indicates that she had emigrated in 1845, but that she had been in America for a 45 years. She probably emigrated in 1855.) She appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.12 Margaret appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.17 She was living with her son John. She was Lutheran in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.18 and was listed on the Membership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Margaret died on 22 September 1900 at the age of 75 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.5,19 She was buried in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.15
