"Larry" GEIER was born on 22 September 1922 in Bangor, La Crosse County, WI.8 He died on 13 March 2009 at the age of 86.8 Obituary Notes: "Hilarion (Larry) W. Geier, 86, 625 Hayward Avenue, Tomah, Wisconsin (and formerly of the Clifton area), passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009. Larry was born near Bangor, Wisconsin on Sept. 22, 1922 to Basilius and Frances (Rondorf) Geier. He grew up near Cashton and attended Newry School and Pine Hollow School. He then worked for several years for various farmers around St. Mary’s Ridge, Lyons Valley, and Norwalk. On June 8, 1948, Larry married Myrtle Doll at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Norwalk. They rented a farm near Norwalk for four years, and then purchased a farm in the Township of Clifton. They farmed there for nearly 35 years before moving to Tomah in 1987. In addition to farming, Larry served for several years as Chairman of St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Indian Creek, where he, Myrtle, and their family were loyal and faithful members for many years. Larry also served as an usher there. At the time of his death, Larry and Myrtle were loyal and faithful members of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah, where he also had been an usher. In addition, Larry served for several years as General Manager of Clifton Farmers Cooperative Creamery and as a Director of Tomah Co-operative Oil Association. Larry loved being with Myrtle and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed giving the grandchildren rides on the tractor and wagon. Larry also enjoyed farming, gardening, watching things grow, seeing birds at the bird feeder, playing cards, visiting with people, and traveling to various states. After moving to Tomah, Larry continued to help out on the farm and enjoyed going to auctions. He also frequently visited the sick and homebound. Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Larry is survived by Myrtle, his loving and devoted wife of nearly 61 years, and their five children: Eileen (David) Malak of Onalaska; Janet (Howard) Bloom of Tomah; Curtis (Jean) Geier of Westby; Mark Geier of Eagan, Minnesota; and Monica (Timothy) Steinert of Duluth, Minnesota. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Michael Malak of Milwaukee; Jennifer (James) Fink of Onalaska, and their children, Trevor, Zachary, and Carson; Ryan (Erin) Malak of Holmen and their daughter, Elise; Patrick Bloom of Stevens Point; Darick Bloom of Tomah; Garett Bloom of Tomah; Carmen (Jason) Fortun of Westby, and their children, Selena, Skylee, and Alison; Darin Geier of Westby; and Amber Steinert and Caleb Steinert, both of Duluth, Minnesota. Larry is also survived by four sisters: Helen (Evan) Summerfield of Wilton; Conalee (Carl) Lewis of Slaton, Texas; Berdella (Gerald) Butzler of Sparta; and Marlene (Larry) Peth of Tomah; six sisters-in-law: Bertha Geier of Sparta; Mary Ann Geier of Sparta; Bonnie Geier of Sparta; Karen Geier of Wilton; Karen Geier of LaCrosse; and Irene Brueggeman of Sparta; two brothers-in-law: Thomas Mlsna of Sparta; and Sylvan “Bud” Doll of Beloit. Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Katie Steinert and Andrew Steinert; his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William (Bill) and Agnes Doll; five brothers: Isidore, Arnold, George, Omer, and Wilbert; three sisters: Adeline (Raymond) Donskey, Irma (LaVern) Von Ruden, and Annabelle (Leonard) Von Ruden; four sisters-in-law: Mamie (Louis) Brueggeman, Lucille Mlsna, Frances Doll, and Dorothy Bressette; and two brothers-in-law: Victor (Florentine) Doll and Herman Brueggeman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah. The Very Reverend Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Tomah. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends may also call on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
