Mr. Getman was born in Jefferson county, N.Y., Jan. 22nd, 1840. In early life he moved West and at Oconomowoc this state he was married to Miss Mary D. Elmer, March 13, 1860. Mr. Getman joined Co. E, 44th Wis. Infantry and honorably fought for the cause of right until he received his honorable discharge at the close of the great conflict. In the fall of 1869, with his family he removed to the town of Lincoln, Monroe county. His wife died Feb. 3rd, 1889, leaving an infant daughter, who has since died, one married daughter and four sons. Mr. Getman was remarried to Mrs. Sarah Shultz and to them one son was born. With his death the immediate family consists of the wife, one daughter, five sons, one step-son and four sisters. At 20 years of age Mr. Getman joined the M.E. church and has ever been a highly respected member of that organization, belonging for many years at LaGrange and after his removal to Tomah to the local church here. He was also a stanch G.A.R. member. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25th, 1901, from the LaGrange M.E. church. Rev. C.E. Butters, of Tomah, conducted the services after which the mortal remains were laid to rest in the LaGrange cemetery." UNKNOWN (ELMER), was born about 1844 in New York.20,26 (The 1880 Census listed her age as 36.) She appeared in the census in 1880 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.26 (According to the 1880 Census, her father was born in New York and her mother in Rhode Island.)
