Virginia was born Sept. 19, 1949, in Tomah to Edward and Pauline Barrett. She graduated from Tomah High School. She was married to Bruce Puttkammer, whom she later divorced, and moved to Searcy to attend college. Virginia worked as a Mental Health Therapist and enjoyed working with the Red Cross and NAMI. She was a member of Downtown Church of Christ, where she worked in the singles ministry. Her family and friends were very important to her, and she will be sadly missed. Virginia was filled with life, love and energy. Her hobbies filled her house and spilled out into her yard as plants and flowers, which she cared for tenderly. Growth, death, rebirth, and the beauty of her gardens showed her faith. She also loved digging up fossils, crystals, and whatever stones God’s earth would reveal to her. Survivors include her children, Cara Brookins of Bryant, AR, and John Charles Puttkammer of Searcy; two sisters, Sue Barrette of Lyndon Station, and Peggy (Merlin) Greeno of Tomah; and a brother, John (Sheila) Barrett of Tomah; as well as grandchildren Hope, Drew, Jada and Roman. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Pauline; sisters Charlott Chaplin and Shirley Puent; and a brother, Edward Barrett, Jr. A memorial service was held April 4, 2009, at the Downtown Church of Christ in Searcy. Burial will be at a later date at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah."
