Obituary Notes: "John L. Olsen, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pearl; by a brother, Robert Olsen, of Verona; sisters, Betty Duff of Madison, and Nancy Clark of St. Paul; by a son, David (Diane) of Greendale; a daughter, Irene (Alban ) Hostak, of Green Bay; grandsons, Jonathan (Ellen) Olsen of Wind Lake, Jeffrey Olsen of Madison and Timothy Olsen, of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Abigail Olsen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtle and by brothers, William and James Olsen.

John graduated from Madison West High School in 1936. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. He was stationed in England, Northern Ireland and Germany. While in England, he met Pearl and they were married in Warrington, England in February 1945. He left the service with a rank of Master Sergeant in March 1946. John worked for Morey Airport, then at Meier Truck Sales for 18 years and began his career as a Graphic Artist in March 1965 in the UW-Madison Department of Mechanical Engineering. He retired in 1986.

John was a life-long resident of Madison. He grew up in Shorewood Hills and as a boy used to sled down the hill that is now Midvale Blvd. John was a hard worker and an avid reader-gifts he passed on to his two children. John's shared his handyman talents with those close to him. His hobbies included playing the clarinet, radio electronics, photography, genealogy and computers. John was newsletter editor for the Madison Area Commodore Users Group. John was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1 S. Rosa Road, Madison at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2006 with the Reverend Theodore Gullixson presiding. Burial will be in Middleton Junction Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church."

John Lewis OLSEN and Pearl SHUSMAN were married in February 1945 in Warrington, Cheshire, Lancashire, England.325 Pearl SHUSMAN was born about 1921 in Manchester, Greater Manchester County, England. She died on 10 October 2009 at the age of 88 in Green Bay, Brown County, WI.1082

Obituary Notes: "Pearl Olsen (Shusman), age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late John; dear mother of David (Diane) and Irene (Alban); fond Nana of Jonathan (Ellen), Jeffrey and Timothy (Jennifer) and loving great-Nana of Ryan and Abigail. Pearl was born and raised in Manchester, England. She met and married John, while he was stationed in England, during World War II. After the war, she returned to Madison, with John, where she lived most of her life.

Funeral services will be held at GRACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1 S. Rosa Road, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, with the Reverend Theodore G. Gullixson presiding. Burial will be in Middleton Junction Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m., until the time of the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, or to the Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, Wis., 53718. The family would like to thank the kind people at Unity Hospice, Woodside Manor I and Woodside Oaks in Green Bay for the care they gave Pearl."
