2. Nicolaus "Nick" KOOPMANN was born on 3 March 1849 in Hanover, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,3,4,5,6 (The Oak Grove Cemetery records list his birth year as 1848.) (His name was listed as "Nicolaus Koopmann" in the ship's manifest for his emigration to America and in the marriage registration record of his daughter "Elise.")

(The FamilySearch.org source lists his parents as William and Marie Koopmann.) He emigrated on 3 July 1884 from Preussen (Prussia).1,2,5 He and his wife and two oldest daughters, Eliza and Emma, emigrated from Hamburg, Germany, on the S. S. Rugia to New York City. They were in Compartment E, and his occupation was listed as "Workman." He appeared in the census in 1895 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.7 His household was in the 2nd Ward and consisted of 2 males and 3 females. Four of them were born in Germany, and 1 (his son, Edward) in the United States. Nick appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.2 He appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.8 He was listed as "Nick Koopman" and his occupation was "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1910 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.9 His occupation was "Laborer in lumber yard." Before 1918 Nick was a shoe repairman in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.1 He died on 18 March 1918 at the age of 69.6,10 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,10 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Nicolaus "Nick" KOOPMANN and Gesche "Gretchen" SANDKAMP were married about 1875 in Hanover, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,6,9 According to the 1900 and 1910 Census', she had 4 children, of whom 2 were still living, so two of them died before 1900. The 1900 Census indicates that they had been for married 25 years, and the 1910 indicates 35 years. Gesche "Gretchen" SANDKAMP11, daughter of Claus SANDKAMP and Catharina GOTTSCHE, was born on 28 November 1854 in Rade, Kreis Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,2,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12 The exact spellings of her given name and her surname are not known. Her given name is clearly listed as "Gesche" in the passenger manifest for her emigration to America, and her name is listed as "Gesche Sandkamp" in the marriage registration record of her daughter Elise. Her given name was listed as "Geischen" in the 1900 Census, as "Geschin" in 1905, and as "Geschen" in 1910. It is spelled "Geeschen" on her gravestone. The FamilySearch.org source lists her name as "Gretchen Sundkamp."

(The village of Rade is located in Aukrug Nature Park, 5 km north of Kellinghusen, 18 km in southwest of Neumünster, 20 km northeast of Itzehoe, and 65 km north of Hamburg. The rivers Stör, Bullenbach, and Kirchweddelbach, flow into its municipal territory. The 1920 Census listed her birth place as "Holstein.") She emigrated on 3 July 1884 from Preussen (Prussia).2,5,12,13 The ship's manifest indicates that she had two pieces of baggage. She appeared in the census in 1895 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.7 Gretchen appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.2 She appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She appeared in the census in 1910 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.9 Gretchen appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 She was described as a "Widow" and was living with her daughter Elizabeth and her family. She appeared in the census in June 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.13 She was described as a "Widow" and was living with her daughter Elizabeth and her family. She died on 13 September 1930 at the age of 75 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,6,10,11,14 Gretchen was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
