23. Leo A. ZIMMERMAN was born on 30 November 1908 in Monroe County, WI.17,22 He died before January 2006 at the age of 97.21

Leo A. ZIMMERMAN and Julia L. HANSEN were married on 25 June 1938 in Shennington, Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.23,24 Julia L. HANSEN, daughter of Soren HANSEN and Carrie HOLM, was born on 19 January 1918 in Woodruff, Oneida County, WI.22,24 She died on 11 January 2006 at the age of 87 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.24

Obituary Notes: "Julia L. Zimmerman, 87, of Tomah, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Cranberry Court Assisted Living Facility, after a long illness of heart failure. She was born Jan. 19, 1918, to Soren and Carrie (Holm) Hansen at Woodruff, WI. When she was 2 years old, her family moved to Wyeville, WI, and started farming. Her father, Soren, later became the rural mail carrier for the Wyeville area. She attended the Mayflower Grade School, near Wyeville, and was a member of the Tomah High School Class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Leo A. Zimmerman on June 25, 1938, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Shennington. They farmed in the Town of Tomah all of their lives. Julia loved the rural farm life and especially enjoyed raising chickens. Leo preceded her in death in February of 1992. Julia was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, and a member of the Lydia Mission Circle. She enjoyed sewing and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is survived by her son, DeWitt (Lillian) Zimmerman of Tomah; four grandchildren, Lori Zimmerman of Wilton, LaRaine (Jerry) Keichinger Sr. of Tomah, Lonnie (Kay) Zimmerman of Mercer and Darren Zimmerman of Tomah; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Josh Zimmerman of Tomah, Robin Zimmerman of Mercer, Kallie (Cole) Dinger of Necedah and Jerry (Mandi) Keichinger, Jr. of Tomah; two sisters, Viola (Chris) Jensen of Bloomington, MN, and Vida (John) Farris of Tomah; a sister-in-law, Lela Zimmerman of Tomah; three nieces, Esther Jensen of Tomah, Evelyn (LaVern) Stenseth of Minnesota and Jeannine Gerke of Tomah; three nephews, Eldon (Gerry) Sonnenburg of Delafield, Russell Zimmerman of Tomah and Bruce (Susan) Jensen of Bloomington, MN, as well as other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Fawn Zimmerman; her parents; a brother, Harold Hansen; an infant sister, Sylvia; two sisters, Evelyn Zimmerman and Hazel Sonnenburg; five brothers-in-law, Arthur and Eldon Zimmerman, Richard Sonnenburg, John Farris and Chris Jensen; and a nephew, Howard Jensen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Vicar Chadwick L. Graham will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Town of Tomah." She was buried on 14 January 2006 in Jacksonville, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI. in the Mount Vernon Cemetery.
