42. Raymond Edward "Ray" GLOEDE was born on 21 February 1923 in Clifton Township, Monroe County, WI.12,16 He graduated in 1941 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16 from Tomah High School. He died on 3 March 2005 at the age of 82 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16

Obituary Notes: "Raymond E. Gloede, 82, of Wilton, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Serenity House in Tomah.Ray was born Feb. 21, 1923, to Ed and Martha (Liersch) Gloede in the Town of Clifton. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Ray was a member of the Tomah Senior High School graduating Class of 1941. On Oct. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Gladys Preuss in Elroy. They farmed on Dorset Ridge for many years. Ray and Gladys enjoyed spending their time polka dancing and playing cards with friends. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wilton. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys; two sons, Larry (Linda) of La Crosse and Howard of Winona, MN; a daughter, Diane of Westby; four grandsons, Chris (Jenny), Matt (Tami), Marc (fiancée Jenni) and Eric; two granddaughters, Ashley and Nicole; great-grandchildren Kimberly, Kayln and Keegan; a sister, Margaret Preuss (her friend Bud Erbs) of Tomah; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Elden Preuss.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wilton. Pastor Ryan Fletcher officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah.

Relatives and friends called on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wilton, and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Wilton, assisted the family with the arrangements.

The family requests memorials be given to the Serenity House, c/o Tomah Memorial Hospital, 321 Butts Ave., Tomah, or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Stained Glass Fund.

Raymond Edward "Ray" GLOEDE and Gladys M. PREUSS were married on 25 October 1947 in Elroy, Plymouth Township, Juneau County, WI.22,41 Gladys M. PREUSS, daughter of Gustav H. PREUSS and May E. KOPENHAFER, was born on 31 May 1927 in Plymouth Township, Elroy, Juneau County, WI.39,41 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Plymouth Township, Elroy, Juneau County, WI.39 She died on 26 February 2017 at the age of 89 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.41

Obituary Notes: "Gladys M. Gloede, 89, of Wilton entered her heavenly rest Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

She was born May 31, 1927, to August and May (Kopenhafer) Preuss in the town of Plymouth in Elroy, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church at Elroy. She was a member of the Elroy Senior High School graduating class of 1945. Gladys was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilton and served for many years with the women’s ELCA group.

Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond Gloede in Elroy, Oct. 25, 1947. Together they raised a family and farmed on Dorset Ridge near Wilton. Ray and Gladys enjoyed spending their leisure time visiting with family and friends. They loved polka dancing and had many happy turns around dance floors throughout the state. Her family and friends knew her as kind, loving and deeply thoughtful, always looking for ways to lighten someone else’s load. Gladys was a wonderful homemaker, cook and an excellent seamstress. Her hands were never idle. She was always busy on the farm, caring for her family, or doing things for others. From a young age she found a special home in the church and serving the Lord. She was an optimist and had a wonderful sense of humor that she carried to her final days. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Linda) of La Crosse, Diane Gloede of Cashton, Howard (Kay) of Winona; brother, Herman (Nadine) of Elroy; grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Gloede, Matt (Tami), Marc (Jenny), Eric Gloede, Nicole (Justin) Piller and Ashley Myers; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous foster grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Eldon Preuss and George Preuss; sister, Adeline Boeder; and brother-in-law, Norbert Boeder; sisters-in law, Carol Preuss and Margaret Gloede.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 401 Mill St., Wilton. Pastor Kristin Wendland will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church."
