28. Walter August LUDEKING was born on 31 October 1904 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.3,42,51 He was baptized on 27 November 1904.51 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.11 Walter appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 He died in 1985 at the age of 81.10 He was buried in 1985 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Walter August LUDEKING and Alice M. NIELSON were married in 1931.3 Alice M. NIELSON was born in 1909.10 She died on 14 February 1983 at the age of 74.3 She was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. NIELSON had the following children: 74 | i. | Charles "Chuck" LUDEKING was born on 4 January 1944 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.122 He died on 26 February 2011 at the age of 67 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.122 Obituary Notes: "Charles “Chuck” R. Ludeking, 67, of Tomah died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at the Serenity House in Tomah. He was born Jan. 4, 1944, to Walter A. and Alice (Nielsen) Ludeking at Sparta. He lived his entire life in Tomah. He resided in his 100 year-old family home with his son, Todd. He was a member of the Tomah Senior High School graduating class of 1962. After high school, Chuck went to Milton College and also played football for them in 1964. He then joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1964. He started work at the United States Property and Fiscal Office at Camp Williams in the warehouse and retired as the transportation officer. His military career started with the 106th Supply and Service Company from 1964-1968, he then moved on to the Wisconsin Military Academy as supply sergeant and operations sergeant and finished at HQ STARC as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. Chuck retired in 1991 with 27 years of military and technician service with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Chuck was inducted into the Wisconsin Military Hall of Fame in 2002. He was a member of the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201. He was a proud resident and steward of Tomah for many years; Chuck served on the Tomah City Council for three years and was instrumental in helping get the senior citizen site up and running. He was mayor of Tomah from 2002 to 2008, and during that time saw a new aquatic center, multipurpose/ice arena and law enforcement center built. Chuck was a proud independent business owner in Tomah and operated the Locker Room Tavern for 11 years, and during that time he was a member of the Monroe County Tavern League. He was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. Chuck was an elder of the ministry of outreach. He was also involved with Journey to Bethlehem as a reader of the gospel and a greeter since its inception. He also was active in promoting and participating in the “Road to Emmaus” DVD outreach effort, and St. Paul’s outreach booth at Monroe County Fair. He was a volunteer at the Tomah Care Center, enjoyed calling bingo games for the seniors and reading to school children. Chuck was an avid sports fan and his love for the Green Bay Packers shone through in his life. He was a huge country music fan, and he and his son Todd could be found annually at the Country Fest in Cadott, enjoying the music firsthand. Chuck was a great friend to many people, and they showed their love with many visits during his illness. Chuck was a loving and caring father and his unselfish nature poured through in his love for his children, Tricia and Todd, in everything he did. Chuck will be sadly missed by his family and the many friends he touched in his life. He is survived by a son, Todd, of Tomah; two sisters, Beverly Bristow of Garland, Texas, and Mary Jo Coleman of Mauston; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Tricia; and a brother Walter W. Funeral services will be held (today) Thursday, March 3, 2011, 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Avenue, Tomah. Pastor David T. Brandt will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors by the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201.
