"Bill" Henry, 79, of Reedsburg, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1925, in Tomah, the son of Lyle and Gertrude (Mistele) Henry. On Sept. 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Sole in Tomah. They lived in Madison from 1948 until 1972, before moving to Reedsburg. He owned and operated H&R Block Tax Service in Reedsburg for 38 years. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 94th Infantry Division during World War II in the European Theatre. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Following his service, he attended UW-Madison. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Reedsburg VFW Post 1916. He was a volunteer for the Reedsburg Ambulance crew. He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Rachel and Alexander Henry; his parents; a great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Ann Pickel; brothers Raymond "Bud," Lloyd, Howard and Jim, and a sister, Jean Bowers. He is survived by: his wife, Gladys of Georgetown, Texas; children: Kathy (Scott) Maves of Oregon, WI, Patti (Rick) Ward of Loganville, Carol (Augustin) Ventura of Grapevine, Texas, and Sean (Tessa) Henry of Austin, Texas; grandchildren: Benjamin (Denise) Maves, Stephanie (Nathan) Oppliger, Elizabeth Maves, Chrissy (Heath) Pickel, Sgt. Tabitha Henry, Patrick Ward, Christian and Autumn Ventura; great-grandchildren: Logan, Kirsten, Bryanna and Tucker; brother: Robert (Mary) Henry of Las Vegas, NV; sisters: Sharon (Floyd) Organ and Gerry Gerke of Tomah; nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Friends may call today (Monday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Farber Funeral Home. A scripture service will be conducted at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made. The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements."
