About 1896 he was a farmer in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.38,39 Newspaper Article dated Nov 21 1896: "August Noth, Sr., a farmer living among the hills seven miles south of Tomah, discovered a vein of gold while engaged in digging a well. He had dug 45 feet when he ran into a ledge of rock, and upon piercing this he struck into a vein of sand which extended down a depth of 80 feet. In this sand he discovered a number of yellow particles ranging in size from grains as big as a pin head to others as large as a pea. He thought the metal he found was brass, but an assay of a teaspoon of the same material found it to be to be gold. A group in Milwaukee is in the process of setting up a company to develop the discovery." (Note: After further work over the next six months, the "discovery" turned out to be nothing of value.) Newspaper Article dated June 17, 1904: "The home of August Noth on the Ridge was burglarized Thursday night of last week, the burglars securing $22 in money, a gold watch and several small articles of jewelry. The family were all at home and not awakened by the burglars, who entered by a window but went out a door." . His death was due to the excitement caused by a fire which destroyed the barn and granary of his son, Herman Noth. August Noth ran over to his son's place and, soon after reaching it, fell dead. The barn was ablaze when discovered and practically nothing could be saved." He was buried in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.12,13 in the Noth Family Reformed Lutheran Cemetery. Louisa "Louise" STRATE43, daughter of Herrmann STRATE and Anna Maria CARBACH, was born on 10 March 1848 in Alverdissen, Kreis Lippe, Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine Westphalia) Province, Preussen (Prussia).9,13,15,18,26,44,45 in Alberdissen. (Her surname is spelled "Strade" in the Marriage Registration Records and in the church records for her marriage and that of her son Herman, and as "Strate" in the baptism record of her daughter Elisabeth and the marriage record of her daughter Hulda.) A witness at the marriage of Fritz Noth and Louise Dorothea Rieke on 27 Oct 1867 was "Friederike Louise Strade." That was probably her. She emigrated about 1868 from Germany.15 (The 1900 Census listed her year of emigration as 1870, but she was married in Monroe County in 1869. So she must have emigrated in 1868 or so.) She appeared in the census in August 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.9 Louise appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.6 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.15 She appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.41 Louise appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.25 Her household was next door to that of her son Herman. It consisted of Louise and her youngest children, John, Adolph and Hulda. She died on 24 June 1915 at the age of 67.13 She was buried in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.12,13 in the Noth Family Reformed Lutheran Cemetery.
