215. Harlow Charles FUCHS was born on 9 May 1922 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.152,463 (He changed his surname to "Fox.") He died on 11 June 2011 at the age of 89 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.463

Obituary Notes: "Harlow C. Fox, age 89, of Tomah, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born on May 9, 1922, to Robert and Mabel (Matzke) Fuchs in Tomah. Harlow attended St. Paul’s Lutheran grade school and was a graduate of Tomah High School. He played football and was proud to have played in the state high school basketball tournament.

Following high school he enlisted in the Army, fighting in World War II with the 32nd Red Arrow Division Armored Flame-Throwing Tank Battalion in the Battle of Okinawa. After serving three years, he returned to Tomah and served in the Army National Guard for 38 years.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Hinsch on March 15, 1947, in McGregor, Iowa, at her parent’s home. They were married for 63 years when Patricia passed away on April 15, 2010.

Harlow was a machinist with The Milwaukee Railroad for 38 years. He also was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tomah Lions Club, Tomah Police and Fire Commission, Hiawatha Golf Club and the Tomah Rotary Club, receiving the Paul Harris Award. He was instrumental in starting the Tomah Thanksgiving Dinner at the TeePee Supper Club. Harlow also was a regular attendee of his morning coffee group. Harlow was recently proud to have helped coordinate the Tomah Area Veterans Memorial. He will be sadly missed by many.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Allen) Nielsen of Batavia, Ill., and Deborah (DuWayne) Vande Zande of Waupun; four grandchildren, Steven Nielsen, Scott (Jaclyn) Nielsen, Tiffany (Josh) Bohnert and Trisha (Todd) VandeBerg; a great-grandson, Bentley VandeBerg a sister Lillian Raabe; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; three brothers, Robert William Jr., Harold and Marvin; along with his parents. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor William Rice officiated. Burial with full military honors followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends called for visitation Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements."

Harlow Charles FUCHS and Patricia "Pat" HINSCH were married on 15 March 1947 in McGregor, Clayton County, IA.463 Patricia "Pat" HINSCH died before June 2011.464
