Burkhalter, 66, of Tomah, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at his home. He was born April 21, 1945, to Arnold and Lucile (Albrecht) Burkhalter on the home farm in Monroe County. He attended Reels Valley Grade School and graduated from Tomah High School in 1963. He was united in marriage to Linda Creviston on April 11, 1964, at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church at South Ridge. He farmed in the town of Adrian his whole life until his retirement in 1997. He worked for Nelson’s Plumbing and for Tony Fries for several years. After his retirement he cut hay for the Wedemeier brothers for several years, as well as helping his son Todd with his steers. He found a passion for cooking and baking in his later years and made Christmas cookies for his family and friends every year. He was a devoted husband who enjoyed waiting on his wife. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda of Tomah; two sons, Todd of Galesville and Troy (Heather) of Tomah; a daughter, Lori (special friend Jim Hericks) Dickman of Tomah; seven grandchildren, Dylan and Tayler Burkhalter, Calli and Bailey Dickman, Isabel and Ava Sovereign and Chloe Burkhalter; three sisters, Ladene Zabinski and Kathleen (James) Friske, both of Tomah, and Bonnie (Stewart) Kortbein of West Salem; a brother, Lamont (Joan) of Tomah; a brother-in-law, Robert Gerke of Norwalk; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Teresa Creviston of Michigan, Lynn Creviston of Sparta, Lola Krause of Wilton, Adeline Creviston of Yankton, S.D., Karen Geier of Wilton, Bonnie Geier of Sparta, Harley Creviston of Wilton and Molly (Richard) Goff of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristi Burkhalter; a grandson, Kyle Burkhalter; a sister, La Vonne Gerke; and a brother, Junior Burkhalter; mother- and father-in-law Earl and Malzena Creviston; two sisters-in-law, Lila Ludeking and Pat Creviston; seven brothers-in-law, Kenny Creviston, Jim Creviston, Elvin Krause, Phillip Ludeking, Gary Creviston, Omar Geier and George Geier. Funeral services will be held Monday (today), Jan. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah. Pastor Warren D. Wetherbee will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakdale cemetery. Relatives and friends called for visitation on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St. and at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the service."
