Monroe County Heritage Book article: "It is interesting to note that Augustine's birthday fell on Valentine's Day and each year she would receive over a hundred Valentine cards from her relatives and neighbors."

(Some family records list her given name as "Augustine," but she was listed as "Auguste" in the baptism record of her daughters Elise, Emma and Lilla; as "Auguste" in the family's immigration record; as "Augusta" in the 1870 Census; and as "Gusta" in the 1900.).

She emigrated on 2 May 1857 from Alt Damerow, Kreis Saatzig, Regierungsbezirk Stettin, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).38,62,109,121,262 Auguste "was ten years old when she came to the United States with her parents, Friederich Pergander and Wilhelmine Friedericke Bremer. Both the Pergander and Bremer families came to the United States from Germany in 1857 to Milwaukee and once owned property in what is now the heart of the that city. They left what they had and decided to come to Adrian Township, Ridgeville and Reels Valley."

(The 1900 Census indicated that she emigrated in 1847 and had been in America for 53 years, the 1910 Census indicated 1859, and the 1920 indicated 1855.)

(The 1860 Census for Wauwatosa Township, Milwaukee County, WI, contains a listing for "Auguste Pergander," age 13, who was living in the household of Sanford and Helena Wheeler. That is believed to have been her.) She emigrated on 12 December 1869 from Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.55 along with her mother-in-law, Dorothea Kuhl, at the baptism of Dorothea Justine Friederike Kuhl, daughter of Karl Kuhl and Emma Youngs. Justine appeared in the census in 1870 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.65 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.57 She was listed as "Gustena." She appeared in the census in 1900 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.38 She was listed as "Gusta." Justine appeared in the census in 1910 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.62 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.109 She died on 30 January 1926 at the age of 78 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.84,111,190 Justine was buried on 2 February 1926 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.67,84,190 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Auguste "Justine" PERGANDE and Wilhelm Ferdinand Theodor "William" KUHL were married on 7 January 1866 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.77,84,111,121,262,263,264 Monroe County Heritage Book Article: "On January 7, 1866, William was married to Augustine Pergander in the Saint John's German Lutheran Church in Ridgeville. William and Augustine settled on a farm in Reels Valley after their marriage and seven children were born to them: Ida (Mrs. Edward Stoltz); Otto married Auguste Gerke; Frank married Emma Kemnow; Luella (Mrs. Herman Noth); Francis (Mrs. Edward Kupper); and twin daughters, Emily and Lily, who died in infancy."

Theirs was the second marriage to take place at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. (The typed church records show her name as "Auguste Perganda.") Wilhelm Ferdinand Theodor "William" KUHL, son of Johann Gottlieb KUHL and Dorothea Friederike MAHNKE, was born on 14 November 1840 in Daber, Kreis Naugard, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).38,57,62,65,77,111,121,185,262,265,266 The 1867 baptism of his daughter Elise, and the 1870, 1880 and 1900 Census' listed his surname as "Kuhl." The 1877 baptism record of his son Franz listed it as "Kuehl." The church Family Register (circa 1890) and the 1910 Census also listed it as "Kuehl."

The 1900 Census listed his birth date as Nov 1842, but the St. John's Lutheran Church Parish Register for Deaths list his birth date as 14 November 1841.

(Daber, Kreis Naugard, Prussia, is now named Dobra Nowogardzka in Lobez County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland.) He was baptized on 29 November 1840 in Daber, Kreis Naugard, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).265,267 The witnesses at his baptism were Ludwig (?) Michael Kuhl of Roggow and Henriette Buss (?) of Roggow. The name of the third witness is illegible. He emigrated in 1858 from Daber, Kreis Naugard, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).38,62,121,262,263 Monroe County Heritage Book Article: "He was 16 years old when he came to the United States with his parents, Gottlieb Kuhl and Dorothea Monkie, in 1858. They came to Mayville, Dodge County, WI, and then to the Township of Adrian, Monroe County, WI. The family settled on a farm in Reels Valley and in 1862, William's father, Gottlieb, was one of the twenty-five heads of families that united in the organization of the first Lutheran Church in the area. The congregation was incorporated under the title 'The Evangelical Lutheran Saint John's Church'."

(The 1900 Census indicated that he emigrated in 1847 and had been in America for 53 years. The 1910 Census indicates that he emigrated in 1859.) William appeared in the census in 1860 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.189 He was Lutheran on 1 December 1866 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.72,205,268 when he became a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was listed on the Membership Roster in 1900. He and his family are listed in the church Communion Register in the early 1890's. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.65 His occupation was "Farmer." Living with him and his wife were Rachel Kuhl, age 4, born in Wisconsin; and Henry Kuhl, age 2, born in Wisconsin. Their identity is not known, but they are not believed to have been their children. William appeared in the census in 1880 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.57 About 1880 he was a farmer in Reels Valley, Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.269 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.38 His occupation was "Farmer." William appeared in the census in 1910 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.62 His occupation was "Farmer, General Farm." He appeared in the census in 1920 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.109 He and his wife were living with a grandson, Francis Stoltz. He appeared in the census on 21 October 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.270 "Fire of an unknown origin destroyed all the buildings with the exception of the residence, hog and chicken houses on the Wm. Kuehl farm Sunday. Two large barns were destroyed."

. William died on 18 December 1927 at the age of 87 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.111,185 He died of a stroke. He was buried on 21 December 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.67,185,271 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Emma Dorothea Pauline "Emilie" KUEHL was born on 3 October 1874 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.57,77,84,111,121 (Church birth records indicate that she was born on 10 Aug 1874, while her burial record indicates 3 Oct 1874. The Monroe County Heritage Book says that she was a twin to Emily, and both died in infancy; they are not believed to have been twins, because church records list Lily's birth in 1881. The confusion arose because they died, not were born, within two days of each other.)
