She was united in marriage to Melvin Sweet in 1916 and he passed away in 1963. Mrs. Sweet lived her entire life in the Tomah area. She is survived by one son, Gerald, Tomah, seven brothers, Virgil Griffin of Belvidere, Ill.; Rowland of Rt. 1, Tomah; John of Rt. 3, Tomah; Lyle of Warrens; Kenneth of Warrens; and Arnold of Tomah. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gilbert of Tomah, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the First United Methodist Church on Friday, October 18th, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Arnold Nielson officiated and burial was in the LaGrange Cemetery." Violet Pansy GRIFFIN (`) (~) and Melvin Edgar SWEET were married on 18 October 1916.22 Melvin Edgar SWEET, son of Emory A. SWEET and Almira Evaline MORSE, was born on 4 October 1892 in Grant Township, Monroe County, WI.22,52 (The Birth Registration record lists his year of birth as 1891.) He appeared in the census in 1900 in Grant Township, Monroe County, WI.11 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.12 He was a "hired man" at the home of Mett Rose. Melvin appeared in the census in 1920 in Grant Township, Monroe County, WI.31 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.33 He and his wife were living with his mother. He died on 30 June 1963 at the age of 70 in Marshfield, Wood County, WI.22 Obituary Notes: "Melvin Edgar Sweet pased away Sunday, June 30, 1963 at the Marshfield Hospital, after an illness of several months. He was born October 4, 1892, the youngest of four children, to Emery and Almira Sweet, on a farm in the Town of Grant, where he grew to manhood. On October 18, 1916, he was maried to Violet Griffin. This union was blessed by two sons, Lester, who met with an accidental death at the age of 15, and Gerald, who resides on the home farm. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Violet, son Gerald, daughter-in-law Donna, four grandchildren, Claire, Leah, Kathy and Theresa, one brother Harry Sweet, sister-in-law Dede, one niece, three nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his son, father, mother and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, the pastor was Glenn O. Kohlhepp. interment was in the LaGrange Cemetery." Melvin was buried on 3 July 1963 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.22,57 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.
