Sarah Jane OAKLEY was born on 17 February 1858 in Springford, Oxford County, Ontario Province, Canada.8 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She died on 15 April 1882 at the age of 24 in Mauston, Juneau County, WI.8,19,20 Sarah was buried in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.8,15,19 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

Sarah Jane OAKLEY and Squire Franklin "Frank" PURDY (`) (~) were married on 21 May 1876 in Tunnel City, Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.8,21 Squire Franklin "Frank" PURDY (`) (~), son of Daniel Crane PURDY and Susan Lucretia SAVAGE, was born on 16 February 1857 in Yates Township, Orleans County, NY.8,11,21,22,23,24,25 (He is listed as "Lynn" in the 1860 Census. The 1900 Census listed his birth date as 58 and his age as 42. His obituary lists his place of birth as Yates, New York. This may have been Yates Center, Orleans County, NY.) He appeared in the census in 1860 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.24 His name was listed as "Lynn." He lived in Purdy Valley in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI between 1865 and 1891.22,26 He owned a 60-acre parcel on the east side of Section 4 and a 40-acre parcel on the west side of Section 3 (adjoining) in Greenfield Township. Frank lived in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI between 1891 and 1943.22 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 Frank died on 2 February 1943 at the age of 85 in Mauston, Juneau County, WI.8,22,25

Obituary Notes: "Squire Franklin Purdy, son of Daniel C. and Susan L. Purdy, was born at Yates, New York, Feb. 16, 1857 and passed away at the Colonial Nursing Home at Mauston, Wis., Feb. 2nd, 1943, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and two days.

When a young boy he came to the state of Wisconsin with his parents, locating in Purdy Valley near Tunnel City, where he grew to manhood.

In the year 1876 he was united in marriage with Miss Jane Oakley of Pleasant Valley. To this union two sons were born, Otis and Rubert. His wife preceded him in death in 1882.

In 1883 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Catherine Burkett of Cataract. This union was blessed with two children, one daughter Inez and one son Rollo. The family resided on a farm in Purdy Valley for eight years and in 1891 moved to Tomah and have resided here for the past 48 years. In March 1919 his second wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Purdy was employed in the Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad Shops for 38 years and was one of the oldest members of Local Union No. 1400. He retired from work in 1928 and spent the last of his remaining years with his children. He was a kind and loving father and a good neighbor, always willing to help others.

Surviving are his three sons, Otis of Tomah, Rubert of Tomah and Dr. R. C. Purdy of Los Angeles, California; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Reisenauer of Tomah and Miss Allie Burkett of Tomah; also 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Heser of Pleasant Valley; also one brother, Mr. Byron Purdy of Pleasant Valley; several nieces and nephews and host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Ninneman Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 o'clock with Rev. Hovda, pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating. Interment was in the LaGrange Cemetery." He was buried on 5 February 1943 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.19,22,27 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery
