2. Hans OLSEN was born on 9 June 1852 in Stromso, Buskerud, Norway.1,2,3 Strømsø is located at the southern side of the river Drammenselva. Until about 1600, Stømsø was an island surrounded by the Drammenselva, but was later made landfast. In 1728 Strømsø was granted rights as a trade center by the king, and these rights were expanded to full trade rights in 1745. In 1811 Strømsø and Bragernes (on the northern side of Drammenselva) were united to form the town of Drammen.
Strømsø has sports facilities, retail, office, industry and schools. Most of Strømsø consists of residential areas. At Strømsø we find Drammen railway station, being a junction for the Randsfjorden Line (connecting to the Bergen Line crossing the Hardangervidda), the Sørlandet Line (leading to Kristiansand and Stavanger) and the Vestfold Line.
The main part of Drammen Harbor is situated at Strømsø. Opened in 1925, the Drammen shipyard (Drammen Slip og Verksted) was an important part of Drammen's industry until it closed down in 1986.
The historic crucifix shaped church Strømsø Church (Strømsø Kirke) which was opened in 1667 is located in Strømsø. The tower of the church was not built until 1694. He was christened on 18 July 1852 in Stromso, Buskerud, Norway.1 He died on 10 August 1912 at the age of 60 in Angelo Township, Monroe County, WI.1,4,5

(The 1880 Census lists the family of Christofer, 34, and Maria, 31, Olson in Portland Township, Monroe County, both born in Norway, with their children Ole, 10; Anna, 8; Charles, 7; Hans, 5; and Christina, 1. This may have been the family of the parents and siblings of Hans, as he would have been born about 1875.)

Hans OLSEN and Alice Mary SCHERMERHORN were married on 20 April 1904 in Angelo Township, Monroe County, WI.1,2,6,7,8 Their marriage is recorded in Volume 4, Page 33, Town of Angelo, Monroe County, WI. His parents were listed as Ole Christ "Olsen" and Martha Thompson and his place of birth was listed as Norway. At the time of his marriage, he resided in Farmers Valley, Angelo Township, and his occupation was listed as "farmer."

Her parents were listed as Chester "Schirmerhorn" and Hannah Woodliff. Her place of birth was listed as Farmers Valley. The marriage was performed by David Ferguson, Sparta, and their witnesses were Roy Woodliff, Ansel Smith and Lizzie (possibly her sister, Louisa) Schirmerhorn. Alice Mary SCHERMERHORN, daughter of Chester SCHERMERHORN and Hannah WOODLIFF, was born on 29 October 1881 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.2,4,9 in Farmers Valley. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She died on 26 July 1953 at the age of 71 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.4 Alice was buried on 29 July 1953 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.1,4 in the Farmer's Valley Cemetery.
