27. Charles Arthur RABE was born on 21 August 1927 in Tug Hollow, Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.1,18,22 He died on 18 January 2006 at the age of 78 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.22

Obituary Notes: "Charles Arthur Rabe, 78, of Tomah died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. He was born Aug. 21, 1927, to William and Ruth (Larson) Rabe in the Town of Oakdale. He attended Brookdale School, Tomah High School, and the University of Wisconsin Agricultural Short Course. Charles enlisted in the U. S. Navy June 1945, and served until Aug. 1946. After his discharge, he joined the State Guard. When the State Guard disbanded, he joined the Wisconsin National Guard. He was discharged in Jan. 1962. He was united in marriage to Alda Johnson on June 6, 1953. In February of 1953 Charles accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. He joined Bethel Baptist Church on June 21, 1953. He joined Tomah Baptist Church in May 1963, where he was an active and faithful member. For 30 years, he worked as a carpenter/handyman for South Side Lumber and as a Nursing Assistant at the Tomah Veterans Administration Medical Center. He later worked as a maintenance man at the Tomah Health Care Center. His greatest joy was woodworking; he built houses, furniture, birdhouses, etc. He excelled in math and science and was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers Fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife, Alda; 5 sons Dale (Cindy) of Scottsdale, AZ, Dennis (Mary) of Hibbing, MN, Brian (Jean) of Tomah, Keith (Rose) of Waukesha, Kevin (Charlene) of Tomah; 2 daughters Barbara (Dean) Andrewjeski of Mosinee, and Christine Rotin of Cave Junction, OR; 17 grandchildren: Brandon (Jill), Nicole, Andrew and Emmalee Rabe, Katie (Ryan) Ong, Ivan and Aimee Andrewjeski, Thomas and Kathy Rabe, Julia, Joel and Jenna Rabe, Robby and Austin Elesky, Jenny (Steve) Dechant, Julie and Jaclyn Beckord; a brother William (Doris) of Tomah, a sister Shirley (Arnold) Dietzman of Tomah, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard, a sister Marjory Smith, a sister-in-law Joan Rabe, brothers-in-law Corwin and Roy Johnson and Ferrell Smith.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, 11 a.m. at the Tomah Baptist Church, 1701 Hollister Ave., Tomah. Pastor Ronald J. Tobin will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery in the Town of Greenfield.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m.. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 East Monowau Street, Tomah, and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m.. until time of the service. The family request memorials be given to Tomah Baptist Church, 1701 Hollister Ave., Tomah, WI, 54660, or the Alzheimer’s Association La-Crosse Regional Office, 115th Ave. So., Suite 421, LaCrosse, WI. 54601 in memory of Charles A. Rabe." He was buried on 28 January 2006 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.22 in the Greenfield Cemetery.
