Ira served in the military in 1814 in New York.1 He was drafted and served two months in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. He served in Capt. Peleg Arnold's Co. of the New York Militia. He was honorably discharged on 14 November 1814. He appeared in the census in 1820 in Springfield Township, Otsego County, NY.45 His household consisted of one male, age 0-10 (his son Thomas Arthur); one male, age 26-45 (Ira); one female, age 1-10 (his daughter Olivia); and one female, age 16-26 (his wife Sarah). Armetta was the wife of their son Charles. The Census form indicates that they were both married within the prior year. Allice appears to have been too old to be their daughter, but she might have been, or she may have been adopted. She was also listed with Charles and Armetta in the 1870 Census. Some family records list her surname as Morse. The cemetery records list it as Mallory. The Rosalie Dieteman Family Tree on Ancestry.com lists it as Skinner. It is believed to have been Skinner. (The 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 U.S. Census' listed her birth place as Vermont, as did the 1880 Census for her son Charles and the 1855 and 1865 New York State Census'. The 1880 Census listed the birth place of both of her parents as Vermont. According to the 1900 Census of her son, Ephraim, she was born in New York State; in addition, the Richard Ripley research of the Root Family lists her birthplace as Chautauqua, Chautauqua County, NY.)
