It is possible that Charles was the subject of an article in the Tomah Journal in July, 1885: "Mr. Charles Root, from New York, arrived in Tomah Tuesday and is visiting his brother J. R. Root and other relatives. It has been 20 years since Mr. Root was here and he finds but little that is ... to/in the appearance of the country." It is not known who "J. R." Root would have been. Charles A. Root's only brothers in the Tomah area in 1885 were Thomas Arthur, William and Ephraim O. Root. The article may have been about the Charles that was the brother of Ira R. Root, Thomas Arthur's father. Charles A. ROOT and Araminta LAMB were married about 1860.51,60 Araminta LAMB, daughter of Norman LAMB and Almedia BABCOCK, was born in June 1840 in Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.60,61,110,174 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.60 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.61 Araminta appeared in the census in 1875 in Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.63 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.67 She died on 9 April 1914 at the age of 73 in North Otto Township, Cattaraugus County, NY.51,110,141 Obituary Notes: "Mrs. Arminta Root died at her home at North Otto, april 9th, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 24 days. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Ford of North Girard, Pa.; Mrs. L. E. Morey of Little Valley; and one brother Camplin Lamb, North Hill; and four children, Mrs. Henry Phillips, Mrs. Emery Higbee, Mrs. Clayton Moore, and one son, Adrian Root, all of that place; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She will be missed by her many friends. She was laid at rest in the North Otto Cemetery, beside her husband."
