He appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5 His surname was spelled "Rowen" and his occupation was "Farmer." Thomas died on 26 March 1878 at the age of 58 in Monroe County, WI.2 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Thomas J. ROWAN Sr. and Sarah MCMULLEN were married before 1855 in Roundout, Ulster County, NY.1,2,3,7,8,9 (According to the 1900 Census, they had 9 children, of whom 6 were living at the time; according to the 1910, they had 10, of whom 6 were living.) Sarah MCMULLEN, daughter of Brice MCMULLEN and Margaret HARBERTSON, was born on 9 September 1827 in Northern Ireland.3,8,9,10 The 1880 and 1910 Census records for her daughter Elizabeth listed her birth place as Ireland, not Northern Ireland. She emigrated in 1847 from Northern Ireland.9,11 (The 1910 Census listed her year of emigration as 1838; that is believed to have been in error.) She appeared in the census in 1850 in Kingston Township, Ulster County, NY.10 Sarah appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.4 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 She was a "Widow" Head of Household, and her occupation was "Keeps House." (Her surname was spelled "Rowen.") Sarah appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She was living with her daughter Lizzie and her family. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She was listed as "Saire" and was living alone on Superior Avenue in the 1st Ward. She died on 4 July 1911 at the age of 83 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.2,3 Sarah was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

He was listed in the 1870 Census, so it is believed that the 1874 date is correct.) He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
