2. Le Sieur (Sir) Thomas DE SAVAGE Knight² was born in 1000 in Avranches, Basse-Normandie, France.² He served in the military on 14 October 1066 in Hastings, Sussex County, England.³ He fought in the Battle of Hastings, in which the Norman-French army of William The Conquerer (the Duke of Normandy), fought against an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson. The Normans were victorious.

His family branched out from Derbyshire into several English counties and in 1177 the family were established in Ireland by William, one of the 22 knights who fought De Courcy in the subjugation of Ulster.

The name Savage is found among crusaders, warriors knighted, the English House of Commons, Bishop and Archbishop of York, and poets. He died in 1070 at the age of 70 in Scarcliffe, Mansfield, Derbyshire, England.²

Le Sieur (Sir) Thomas DE SAVAGE Knight and Johanna DE BENCHESHAM were married in 1023 in Of Scarcliffe, Derbyshire, England.² Johanna DE BENCHESHAM was born in 1004 in Scarcliffe, Mansfield, Derbyshire, England.² She died in 1044 at the age of 40 in Scarcliffe, Mansfield, Derbyshire, England.²
