August Lorenz "Curly" SCHAMENS was born on 17 April 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.21,32,38,54 He appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.20 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.15 Curly appeared in the census in 1920 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.3 Between 1922 and 1972 he was a barber in Wisconsin.38 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Random Lake, Sheboygan County, WI.55 His occupation was listed as "Barber, Tonsorial Parlor." He and his wife were renting their home. Curly appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.56 His household was at 410 McLean Avenue and his occupation was "Barber, Barber Shop." He died on 5 May 1975 at the age of 70 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.38,54 Obituary Notes: "August L. Schamens, 70, 410 McLean Avenue, Tomah, died (of Lymphoma cancer) today (Monday) May 5 at the Tomah Memorial Hospital. He was born April 17, 1905 at Wilton to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schamens. He married the late Edna Kewit in 1929. She died in 1967. He later married Louella Drowatzky. He was a Tomah barber for 50 years prior to his retirement several years ago..

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Lt. Col. Kenneth Schamens of O'Fallen, Ill.; and Lt. Col. Maurice Schamens of Bellview, Neb.; one sister, Mrs. Irma Mattson; and one brother, Franz, both of Sparta; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church with Pastor O. W. Heier officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery."

He was buried on 7 May 1975 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.38,54,57 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

August Lorenz "Curly" SCHAMENS and Edna Lula KEWIT were married on 4 December 1929 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12,38,58,59 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. His Best Man was his brother Rudolph, and her Maid of Honor was one of her cousins, Lulu Bartels Benjamin. Edna Lula KEWIT, daughter of Hermann Gustav JASKIEWICZ and Albertine Justine Louise BACKHAUS, was born on 23 October 1902 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.21,32,38,54,58,60,61 She was baptized on 23 November 1902 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.61 She appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.20 Edna appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.15 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.3 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Random Lake, Sheboygan County, WI.55 Edna appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.56 She died on 6 February 1967 at the age of 64 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.38,54,58 Obituary Notes: "Mrs. August (Edna Lula) Schamens, age 64, was born October 23, 1902, in the Town of Wilton. Her parents were Mr. Herman Kewit and his wife Louise (nee Backhaus). On December 4, 1920, she was united in marriage with Mr. August Schamens in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tomah by Pastor C. E. Berg. Since a few years after their marriage, she and her husband lived in Tomah and were active members of St. Paul's Lutheran congregation. She also belonged to the Debra Mission Circle.

Her earthly sojourn was filled with much sorrow, particularly during the last 15 months. She was taken to the local hospital on January 31, when she became seriously ill quite suddenly. (She died of a cerebrovascular hemmorage.)

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alfred Kewit. She is survived by her husband, August, of Tomah; two sons, Kenneth of Tokyo, Japan, and Maurice of Glasgow, Mont., presently of Guam in the Pacific; two daughters-in-law; six grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday (today) Feb. 9, at 2 P.M. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery." She was buried on 9 February 1967 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.38,54,57 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
