202. Arthur Lamont "Art" SOWLE was born on 22 May 1933 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16,17 He graduated in 1951 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16 from Tomah High School. He graduated in 1955 in Ripon, Fond du Lac County, WI.16 from Ripon College. Art died on 13 January 2005 at the age of 71 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16

Obituary Notes: "Arthur L. Sowle, age 71, of Tomah, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, unexpectedly at his home. He was born on May 22, 1933, to Kyle and Frieda (Stoiber) Sowle in Tomah. He was a 1951 graduate of Tomah High School and a 1955 graduate of Ripon College and an ROTC graduate. Art was an outstanding three-sport athlete in high school and college.

On May 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Beverly Tews at the Republican House in Ripon. Three days after their marriage, Art left for service as a lieutenant in the Army Paratroopers. He served in Korea for 18 months before seeing Bev again.

He went to work for the U.S. Postal service as a walking mailman before being assigned his own route, (RR4), southwest of Tomah. Art and Bev purchased the Hillside Motel in 1966. In 1988, he started the Brentwood Inn and retired from the postal service shortly after. Along with the hotel, he also started an insurance business and owned rental property. He was a big fan of all sports and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Tomah; a son, Tenno (Denise) Sowle of Tomah; grandchildren Ty Sowle of Madison, and Tara Sowle of Tomah; sisters, Jean (Kenneth) Brost of Madison, Joyce Krueger of Oregon, WI, and Karyl Smythe of Portage; a brother, Dayton (Bev) Sowle of Tomah; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Frieda; and two sons, Torin and Todd Sowle.

Funeral services were held today (Monday), Jan. 17, 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Tomah. Pastor William Swan officiated. Burial with full military honors by the Tomah VFW followed in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Tomah. Visitation was on Sunday, Jan. 16, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. He was buried on 17 January 2005 in Jacksonville, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16 in the Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Arthur Lamont "Art" SOWLE and Beverly Ann "Bev" TEWS were married on 21 May 1956 in Ripon, Fond du Lac County, WI.16 Beverly Ann "Bev" TEWS, daughter of Lawrence TEWS and Jeanette STARR, was born on 20 October 1937.156 She died on 27 August 2018 at the age of 80 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.156
Obituary Notes: "Beverly Ann Sowle, 80, of Tomah, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at the Cranberry Court Assisted Living in Tomah. She was born Oct. 20, 1937, to Lawrence and Jeannette (Starr) Tews.

Bev was united in marriage to Arthur Sowle at the Republican House in Ripon, Wis., May 21, 1956. Art and Bev purchased the Hillside Motel in 1966. In 1988, they started the Brentwood Inn.

She is survived by her son, Tenno (Denise) Sowle of Tomah; grandchildren, Ty (Natolie) Sowle of Minneapolis, and Tara Sowle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers, Leonard, Roger and Glenn Tews; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Jeannette; her husband, Art; and sons, Todd and Torin.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah. Pastor Krysta Deede will officiate. Burial will be held in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church."
