3. Gregor SCHMIEDER was born on 4 July 1842 in Brise, Austria.^1,3,5,6,8 (The 1900 and 1910 Census records listed his birth place as Germany; that is believed to be incorrect.) He emigrated in 1849 from Austria.^1,6 (The 1910 Census listed his emigration year as 1856.) He served in the military on 29 November 1864 in Clifton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁹ He enlisted in the 6th Wisconsin Infantry and served as a Private. His June 1886 claim for veteran's benefits as an Invalid indicates that he used the alias of "Frank Element." The 1890 Veteran's Census schedule for Wilton Township indicates that he was "Not assigned to any Company." Gregor appeared in the census in August 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.² He was listed as "Gregory Schmits" and his occupation was "Farmer." His household was next to that of his parents. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ His occupation was "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ Gregor appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁶ His occupation was "Own Income." Living with him and his wife was John Schmieder, a "nephew," age 21. The identity of his parents is not known, but John's father probably was a brother of Gregor's. He died on 14 November 1918 at the age of 76.⁸ He was buried in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ in the St. Paul's German Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Sophia Louise RAABE, daughter of Friedrich Martin RAABE and Sophia Louise PRAVITZ, was born on 17 November 1849 in Alt Rudnitz, Neumark, Brandenburg Province, Preussen (Prussia).^3,6,8 She emigrated in 1867 from Preussen (Prussia).⁶ She appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.² Sophia appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ She appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁶ Sophia appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ She was a widow and was living alone. She died on 11 September 1934 at the age of 84 in Monroe County, WI.^8,12 She was buried in 1934 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ in the St. Paul's German Lutheran Church Cemetery.
