2. Charles "Carl" SCHWANDT was born in February 1850 in Preussen (Prussia).^1,2

"Charles Schwandt was very thrifty, and carried flour from Sparta to Portland, WI, walking the entire distance. He apparently saved enough money to purchase a farm in Pleasant Valley, near St. Joseph's ridge and to arrange for Julius "Theodor" and Adolph to come to Pleasant Valley in October of 1882. Later (uncertain when--within a year or so), Charles Schwandt was able to bring August Schamens and Bertha "Schamens" Baumbach the youngest) to the US." He emigrated in 1875 from Preussen (Prussia).¹ (According to the 1900 Census, he emigrated in 1875 and had been in America for 25 years.) He appeared in the census in 1900 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.¹ Carl appeared in the census in 1910 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ His household consisted of Carl, Augusta, and their children Emil and "Mannie."

(He could not be located in the 1920 Census, so he may have died before then.) He died in 1930 at the age of 80.⁸ He was buried in 1930 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ in the First Portland German Lutheran Cemetery. Charles "Carl" SCHWANDT and Auguste "Augusta" MARTIN were married about 1875.^1,2 According to the 1900 Census, they had 7 children, of which 6 were still living. Auguste "Augusta" MARTIN⁹ was born in December 1851 in Preussen (Prussia).¹ She emigrated in 1875 from Preussen (Prussia).¹ (According to the 1900 Census, she emigrated in 1875 and had been in America for 25 years.) She appeared in the census in 1900 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.¹ Augusta appeared in the census in 1910 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷

(She could not be located in the 1920 Census, so she may have died before then.) She died in 1941 at the age of 90.⁸ She was buried in 1941 in Portland Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ in the First Portland German Lutheran Cemetery. Charles "Carl" SCHWANDT and Auguste "Augusta" MARTIN had the following children:
