Mary S. SHUTTER and Darius "David" MANLEY were married on 18 November 1858 in Monroe County, WI.^12,18,19,20 Darius "David" MANLEY, son of Zenus MANLEY and Rachel BROWN, was born about 1834 in New York.^{11,12,19,21,22,23} (His surname was spelled "Manly" in the Marriage Registration Records.) (The 1850 Census listed his age as 16, indicating a birth year of about 1833 or 1834; the 1860 listed it as 35, indicating a year of birth of abt 1825; the 1880 listed it as 47, indicating a birth year of abt 1833; and Barbara Hernden's research lists his birth date as Abt 1835.) He appeared in the census in 1850 in Middleburg Township, Tioga County, PA.²³ His occupation was "Laborer." He appeared in the census in 1860 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ David appeared in the census in 1870 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.¹³ He appeared in the census in 1880 in Perry Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN.²² He was living alone and his occupation was "Farmer."

(He could not be located in the 1900 Census anywhere in the U.S.) He appeared in the census in 1910 in Minneapolis Township, Roberts County, SD.²⁴ He was listed as a widower and was living with his son Nathan and his family. David died on 16 February 1912 at the age of 78 in Roberts County, SD.^2,18
