Royce Keith KORTBEIN was born on 18 September 1933 in Monroe County, WI.⁵² He died on 21 January 2023 at the age of 89 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.¹²⁰ Obituary Notes: "Royce Keith Kortbein, 89 of Wilton, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at his home. He was born on September 18. 1933 to Arnold and Bernice (Shutter) Kortbein in Sparta, Wisconsin. Royce was a member of the Wilton High School Graduating Class of 1950.

At the age of 17, Royce enlisted into the United States Air Force where his proudly served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring after 20 years. On Sept 16th, 1966 Royce was united in marriage to Alma Flores in Laredo, Texas. After retiring from the military, Royce purchased the Otto and Hilda Gerwin farm next to his family home farm and started his life as a farmer.

He was a member of Monroe County board as Treasurer for 20 years and the local lions club. He enjoyed poetry, woodworking, racquetball, photography and playing bridge. He will be remembered for honesty, integrity, hard work and lifelong passion for learning.

He is survived by his wife, Alma of Wilton, sons, Rob Kortbein of Applevalley Minnesota and Eric Kortbein of Wauwatosa Wisconsin, grandchildren, Ana, Elllie, Zach, Karly and Ben
Siblings, Harriet and Stuart.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 504 Enderby Street, Wilton. Father John Ofori-Domah will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth American Legion Post #508. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Royce Keith KORTBEIN and Alma FLORES were married on 15 September 1966 in Laredo, Webb County, TX.^120,121 Alma FLORES was born on 11 February 1935 in Saltillo, Mexico.⁷⁸ She died on 28 August 2024 at the age of 89 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷⁸ Obituary Notes: "Alma F. Kortbein, 89 of Wilton passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at her home. She was born on February 11, 1935, to Juventino and Evira (Guerra) Flores in Saltillo Mexico. On September 16, 1966, Alma was united in marriage to Royce K. Kortbein, in Laredo, Texas. In 1973 after her husband Royce retired from the Airforce, she moved 1,476 miles to the Wilton area. She was member of Ladies Aid, a board member for Monroe County, endless volunteer hours here at St. Johns. As an interpreter she worked at Ft. McCoy, the court system, and hospitals. Also drove many miles as a census taker. Alma is remembered for her kind, giving soul, altruistic approach to life, prayerful, and honoring her faith.

Alma is survived by her sons Rob Kortbein of Apple Valley, MN Eric Kortbein of Wauwatosa WI (Michelle), Grandchildren Ana, Karly, Zach, Ben Kortbein, Eleanor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Juventino and Evira Flores. Husband Royce, her brother Edwardo, sisters Thelma, and Marcela.
