Descendants of Johannes Christof "John" Sommerfeldt, Sr.

Johannes “John” Sommerfeldt, Sr., and his wife, Wilhelmine “Minnie” Stolz, were born in the Posen Province of Prussia in the 1830’s.

They and their two oldest sons emigrated to America in 1866 and settled in Wisconsin. The rest of their six children were born there.

The children married into families such as Westpfahl, Popp, Welnitz, Hoffman and Kuthlow. (Some of his descendants later changed the spelling of their surname to Summerfield.)

Johannes may have been related to Michael Sommerfeldt, who was born in Posen Province in the 1820’s. The two of them were the ancestors of all of the Sommerfeldt/Sommerfield families in Monroe County. Johannes may also have been related to Wilhelmine Sommerfeldt, who married August Grill.
